Read More	MERRILL, WILLIAM-- William Merrill was born In Lake Gage, Steuben county, Indiana, July 9, 1841, and departed this life April 20, at 5 o'clock p. m., 1911, being aged 71 years, 9 months and 11 days, having a margin of almost two years beyond the allotted time. At Polk City, Ia., he was married to Sarah I. Mercer in 1866, the wife dying during their residence in Geneva in 1882. When the deceased and family came to Nebraska in the fall of 1869 they located first in York county, later moving to Fillmore, where they located on a homestead in 1870 three miles northeast of Geneva. In the winter of 1904 Mr. Merrill and his two sons, William J. and Oliver, removed to Paris, Mo., where he has since resided. Mr. Merrill was a member of class No. 1 under the leadership of J. B. Lewis. The church records do not show his removal and was therefore a member of the Geneva Methodist church when he put out to sea. At the time of the civil war he heard the roll of the drum and gave his service to his country in the time of her need, joining the Seventeenth Iowa volunteers. He was a member of Wilson Post. G. A. R. of Geneva and the comrades assembled to assist in the last sad rite. The eye of God is over us. The deceased met his brother on the level and lived upon the square. Members of the Masonic lodge laid his mortal remains in their last resting place in the Geneva cemetery Sunday afternoon. The body arrived at Fairmont Saturday evening and was brought to Geneva to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Shively, where it reposed overnight. The funeral took place from the Methodist Episcopal church in Geneva at 3 p. m. Sunday and was conducted by Rev. C. L. Myers. The Masonic order had charge of all arrangements. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. Deceased was survived by the following children: Mrs. W. S. Wyatt of Enid, Ok., Mrs. Bertha Eaton of Paris, Mo .Mrs. Myrtle Jayne of Wheaton, Ill., Mrs. John Shively of Geneva, William Merrill of Paris, Mo., Oliver Merrill of Paris, Mo., O. A. Merrill of Geneva. All were here to attend the funeral. There were also at the funeral O. C. Merrill and wife of Kansas City. Mr. Merrill being a brother of the deceased; Mr. and Mrs. E. Dedmore of Fairmont, Mrs. Dedmore being a sister of the deceased; Mr. and Mrs. E. Travis of McCool, Mrs. Travis being a niece of the deceased: Rev. and Mrs. O. F.
