Description	:	A biographic sketch of the late Wm. Porter whose death we mentioned last week, was mailed to us at the time but inaccurately directed, so it was late reaching us. We condense it as follow: William M. Porter: born in Shelby county, Indiana, June 27, 1844, died at Anita, Iowa, November 20, 1902. He was left an orphan by the death of both parents and was raised by an uncle. At the breaking out of war he enlisted in Co. Porter: born in Shelby county, Indiana, June 27, 1844, died at Anita, Iowa, November 20, 1902. He was left an orphan by the death of both parents and was raised by an uncle. At the breaking out of war he enlisted in Co. F. 70th Indiana Infantry in 1862 and served until the close of the war and then engaged in farming. In 1868 he came to Jasper county Iowa, and from there to Cass county in 1867 where he bought 160 acres of land in Massena township, which he occupied until 1893 when be moved into Massena. In 1868 be was married to Martha Cameron who died In 1879 having a family of five children Merritt, Effie, Elmer, Arthur, and Nettie, who all are living except Nettie who died in July 1891. Mr. Porter was again married in 1880 to Sarah Roots to whom were born four children. Leta Mae, Ezra, Raymond and Harrison. Mr. Porter united with the M. E. church in 1868 and was a faithful member to the close of his life. His wife and eight children survive him to mourn his death. The funeral service was held in the Massena M. E. church, conducted by the Rev. J.J. Farley and the remains were laid to rest In Evergreen cemetery by the Q. A. R. comrades and the Masons in both which he had been a member. -Anita Republican, December 3, 1902 Atlantic Semi-Weekly Telegraph December 2, 1902 Page 8 Died at his residence in this city on Thursday, November 20, of Brights disease, Mr. William Porter. Mr. Porter was an old settler in this community and was highly esteemed by a large circle of acquaintances. He served for three years in the Civil War. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Saturday p.m. and the body interred in the Massena Center Cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
