Beach was born June 8, 1898, and died Oct. 19, 1971. He was the eldest son of Oliver and Maude Beach, who owned and operated a store in Burksville which is located in eastern Shelby County. He attended the Iron Bridge School in eastern Shelby Co. In 1914, Willie began working for Charles and Edna Miles, who owned and operated a small country store two miles east of Cherry Box. While working there, he met their eldest daughter, Elma Miles, who was born on April 19, 1899. They were married on Jan. 1, 1921, in her parents' home. They bought a farm 1 3/4 miles east of Cherry Box shortly thereafter. Elma still lives in the same house. Willie served as a director for both the McWilliams School Board and the Leonard School Board. He was an active member of the Shelby County Church of the Brethren, where both he and Elma served as deacons and he as a trustee. He raised and sold polled Hereford cattle. Willie and Elma had seven children: Lester, Elsie, Weldon, Mary, Edna, Charles, and Carolyn. They have had 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. (Contributed by Paula D)
