Although he and his parents were enumerated in the 1840 census of Concord, Jackson Co, MI, and his widowed father and four of his siblings were enumerated in the 1850 census of Jackson Co., MI, William cannot be separately found in either the 1850 or 1860 census. Although he and his parents were enumerated in the 1840 census of Concord, Jackson Co, MI, and his widowed father and four of his siblings were enumerated in the 1850 census of Jackson Co., MI, William cannot be separately found in either the 1850 or 1860 census. According to the 1906 Michigan death certificate of his widow Louisa Benham, who was b. in Dec. 1831 and was residing with her widowed mother and numerous siblings at Homer Twp, Calhoun Co., MI in the 1850 census, she married at the age of 23. This undoubtedly means William and Louisa m. in 1855. However, the 1870 census of the resulting McAllister family includes an inferred dau. named Esther b. at Michigan and 17 years old. If Esther's age was correctly stated this infers that Louisa was a 2nd wife requiring further research. The family of William P. McAllister and Louisa Benham first appears in the 1870 census of the Town of Albion, Calhoun Co, Michigan consisting of the aforementioned child Esther and five other daughters age 4 through 12. The June 1880 census of the same place adds three additional children to the family - sons John H. and Seth L. along with dau. Ella. A summary of the children will be added later.
