William Peery was born in Muscatine county, Iowa, October 20, 1851, and passed to his eternal reward from the farm home where he had continuosly lived for sixty-two years, Sunday, December 30, 1928, at the advanced age of 77 years, two months and two days. On October 18, 1877, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth Davis and for more than fifty-one years they traveled together across the journey of time, a privilege and blessing not privileged to many. To them was born one daughter, Luella, a beautiful and lovely character, precious in their hearts and lives. She was called to her heavenly home two years ago last May. In early life he took upon himself the vows of a christian life, accepting Christ as his personal saviour and through the course of his long christian experience maintained his unwavering confidence in the power and surity of the Redeemer's presence in his life. He gave his hand to the Methodist Episcopal church at the time he gave his heart and allegience to Jesus Christ and through all the years of his active life even with old age and death he was faithful and loyal to the church and all its interests. Thus without ostentation and perhaps, unconsciously he builded (sic) a character and stamped the impress of his life indelibly upon those with whom he associated for so many years for the betterment of the moral and spiritual welfare of the community. His business and social relations were on a high plane of absolute justice and integrity and a genial and generous spirit. The Peery home was an open door for the ministers and the hospitality and warm christian fellowship evoked the gratitude of all who came to this open home. Mr. Peery was a loyal, faithful husband, a devoted and loving father, a generous neighbor and open friend to all. Thus his life's work is done, his earthly history written and he has entered into the eternal reward, and leaves as golden treasures for all who knew him a life well lived and service well done. Beside his wife nephews and nieces and a vast concourse of friends bow in sorrow at his pasing, (sic) but are consoled in the promise of a final reunion beyond the confines and uncertainty of time. The funeral services were held at his late home Wednesday, January 2, at one o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. W. H. Larrick, of Derby, Iowa, a former pastor, and all that mortal of Wm. Peery was laid to rest in the Cornwall cemetery [near Ellston] awaiting the ressurrection morn.
