Sources: Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion" LeMars Semi-Weekly Sentinel 1-1-1900 Death of a Pioneer and War Veteran William Pollard died on Thursday [12-28-1899] night at his residence in Washington township. He had been ill more or less for a number of years and his death was not unexpected. Mr. Pollard was 69 years old and was a native of England, from which country he emigrated when a young man. coming to the United States to carve out his future fortunes. He lived in Wisconsin and enlisted during the civil war in the 52nd [No record was found in 52nd, but there was one for 2nd] Wisconsin and saw much service and shed his blood for his country's sake. He was wounded in the head, ear and side at the battle of Bull Run and these wounds, together with privations suffered during that time of strife materially affected his health in latter days. He came to this county in 1869 among the pioneers and took up a homestead in Washington township where he has ever since resided. He was a man of sterling integrity and was honored and respected by the whole community. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters to mourn the loss of husband and father. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church one mile north of Crathorne on Sunday, December 31, at 12o'clock. Mower Post, G. A. R of which the deceased was a member, took charge of the obsequies.
