Description	:	William "Bill" Griffen passed away early Tuesday morning, July 14, 2009, at Garfield County Hospital/Memory Manor where he had resided for the last ten months. He was born April 23, 1921 to James and Emma Griffen. Upon their divorce, Bill went to live with Ed and Ann Ruchert. Bill enlisted in the Army at age 18 and was a heavy equipment operator during World War II, serving in Germany. Upon returning home he met Opal Wade and they were married on July 3, 1946. They had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary 11 days before his death. They had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary 11 days before his death. Bill had several jobs during his 88 years of life. He worked for farmers, owned his own plumbing and heating business, worked for the Pomeroy Grange as a mechanic, and retired in 1986 from Frontier Machinery in Pasco. Bill was very active in the VFW. he held several offices, the last being the post commander. During his retirement years, Bill never missed working on one of their projects. During his earlier years, he was a volunteer fireman for the county. Survivors names omitted per findagrave policy. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jim Shawley. Celebration of life will be held at the Dick Brown Community Building at the Pomeroy Fairgrounds.
