Description	:	This community has been saddened by another mine accident which occurred yesterday morning in the Central shaft operated by Neal Hotchkiss. In a roof cave-in Wm. Chalmers and Penwell Pyle were caught, Mr. Chalmers receiving injuries about the skull which rendered him unconscious and which caused his death about seven o'clock this morning. Jarvis property, but his life was early despaired of and he never regained consciousness. Mr. Chalmers was twenty-six years old and his marriage to Miss Margaret Hotchkiss occurred a few years ago. He is survived by his wife and little son, father, and several brothers and sisters. No funeral arrangements have been made up to the time of going to press. Obituary next week. Burlingame, KS Enterprise-December 28, 1911 Contributed by Thomas Hotchkiss Wm. Chalmers was born at Scranton, Kansas, April 20, 1885, and died at his home in this city, December 28, 1911. His mother died when he was ten years of age. He is survived by his father and stepmother and brother James of Scranton, a brother Joe of Illinois, Tom and Andrew of this city, a sister, Mrs. Ure of Topeka and another sister of Everest, Kansas. All were present at the funeral with the exception of the latter who could not make railway connection. Mr. Chalmers came to this city eight years ago where he has since been engaged in mining. He was married to Miss Margaret Hotchkiss June 17, 1908 who, with a little son three years of age survives him. He was a member of the Presbyterian church in Scranton, also a member of the local lodge A.O.U.W., and carried a beneficiary of $2000. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home at 3:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. E. Schaible. The services were unusually largely attended and gave ample proof of the esteem with which he was held. His sad and untimely death, caused by a cave-in in the Central as we mentioned last week, is deeply deplored. Burlingame, KS-January 4, 1912 Contributed by Thomas Hotchkiss
