Bill was born on January 15, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa to Pat and Betty (Gilreath) Maher. He grew up in Mingo and graduated from Mingo High School with the class of 1968. Bill was born on January 15, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa to Pat and Betty (Gilreath) Maher. He grew up in Mingo and graduated from Mingo High School with the class of 1968. Following school, he became a Volkswagen mechanic and worked for a few companies prior to begin working for Jasper County. Bill married Paula Bucklin on November 6, 1971 in Colfax. They lived in Mingo until moving to Baxter in 1977. Bill remained working for Jasper County Highway Department where he became the shop foreman. In 2011, after more than 30 years he retired from the county. Bill was a member of the Baxter Men's Club. He enjoyed spending time with family, helping others in need, fishing, reading, tinkering in his garage, and drinking beer with his buddies. Bill was a faithful friend to many and always the first to lend a helping hand. Survivors include his wife Paula Maher; children Bryan (Becky) Maher, and Brenna (Michael) Burkle; grandchildren; siblings Jeanne (Al) Conover, John (Jodi) Maher, Frank (Lynette) Maher; nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerald Rinehart, Jim Maher, and Chuck Maher, and sister Mary Kay Jones.
