Description	:	William Richard Gregory, "Rich", was born on July 22, 1911 north of Haigler, Nebraska on the "Altman place." He had two older sisters Frances (Gregory) Larimer and Margaret (Gregory) Stasser. Their father, David Samuel Gregory acquired tuberculosis and died in 1914 when Rich was only 3 years old. Rich's mother Mary Frances "Mollie" (Samson) managed to take care of the three children by working in her father's hotel, taking in laundry and working at a creamery. Read More	William Richard Gregory, "Rich", was born on July 22, 1911 north of Haigler, Nebraska on the "Altman place." He had two older sisters Frances (Gregory) Larimer and Margaret (Gregory) Stasser. Their father, David Samuel Gregory acquired tuberculosis and died in 1914 when Rich was only 3 years old. Rich's mother Mary Frances "Mollie" (Samson) managed to take care of the three children by working in her father's hotel, taking in laundry and working at a creamery. Mollie married Horace Roach, who was in Haigler working on the railroad. Rich Gregory was raised by his step-dad, who he called "Pop Roach" and they lived around the Dundy County, Nebraska and Yuma County, Colorado area. The Roaches raised the 3 Gregory children and 6 Roach children, Marlin, Quentin, Virginia (Roach) Kraft, Ollie (Roach) Loop, Betty (Roach) Winden and Lowell "Bud" Roach. Family was always important to Rich. He loved his brothers and sisters and enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. Rich worked as a farm laborer for Marvin Mills in Cheyenne County Kansas, who helped him get started on his own farm. On April 25, 1939, Rich married Alice Crabtree, a school teacher in Cheyenne County, Kansas and they raised 5 children on a farm in the northwest corner of Cheyenne County which they purchased in 1942 from Bertha Zuege, widow of Charlie Zuege. The Zueges homesteaded this land and were the original owners. It is now owned by the Workman family, who are descendants of homestead neighbors. Rich was a farmer all his life, however, in later years because of asthma, he retired and moved to Arizona where his life was extended by the sunshine and dust free environment. He was a Christian man who believed in kindness and humor. He is loved and missed by his family and friends.
