Bill was born August 19, 1923, in Gering, Nebraska as the seventh of eight children. He graduated from Gering High School, attended the University of Nebraska –Lincoln and served in the Navy during WWII. Read More	William "Bill" Robert Grassmick 8/19/1923 - 11/25/2011 William "Bill" Robert Grassmick, 88, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away Friday, November 25, at home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born August 19, 1923, in Gering, Nebraska as the seventh of eight children. He graduated from Gering High School, attended the University of Nebraska –Lincoln and served in the Navy during WWII. After marrying Arlene Hamburger in 1948, Bill worked for Swift and Company for 15 years. He then worked for Tri-State Supply for an additional 15 years and as store manager when it was sold to Wheeler's. In 1973, Bill began working for the Hiner Company until he retired in 1987. After his retirement, he enjoyed building bent willow furniture. Bill was an accomplished musician who could play any instrument he laid his hands on and sang at literally hundreds of events, including weddings, funerals and rodeos. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gering for over 50 years. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Tom, his parents, John and Elizabeth Grassmick and siblings Ted, Esther, Bertha, John Jr., Lily, Freda and Don. He is survived by the love of his life, Arlene, son Ric (Trudi) Grassmick of Chandler, AZ, daughters Suzanne Browne of Duluth, GA, Barbara (Paul) Wascher of Berwyn, IL, Teri (Brad) Johnson of Austin, TX; grandchildren Eric and Graeme Grassmick of Chandler, AZ and Danielle and Whitney Browne of Seattle, WA and Lincoln, NE, respectively. Bill's family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Eric Wiebe and the staff members at Da Vita, Home Instead and Prairie Haven Hospice for their kindness and support. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery. He requested no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bill Grassmick to the charity of your choice.
