CALLED BY DEATH Aged Resident Had Lived Here 61 Years William Sidel Sr. a resident of Howard County for 61 years, died at St. Paul Monday following an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Sidel was born in Austria (Oberwildgrub, Silesia) Oct 29, 1862 and was 84 years, 8 months and 15 days of age. Coming to America when a young man he came to David City, Nebraska, where he worked on a farm. A few years later he came to Howard County and farmed near Boelus, later to a farm on Oak Creek, and then to a farm near St. Paul. He retired in 1925 and moved to St. Paul, which has since been his home. On June 28, 1898 he was married to Miss Marie Mick, and had observed their 49th wedding anniversary recently. Surviving are his wife, and the following children: John Sidel of Ravenna, Mrs. Robert Vincent of Julesburg, Colo., Wm. Sidel Jr., of St. Paul, Mrs. Agnes Hagman of Cairo, Joseph Sidel of Silver Creek: Bernard, a son and two daughters preceded him in death. He also leaves 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. The rosary will be recited at the Keating Mortuary Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 8:30. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Mortuary at 9:45 and at the St. Paul Catholic Church at 10am with Rev. Jos. Hinzmann of Farwell officiating. Burial will be make in St. Paul Cemetery. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - William Sidel was born Wilhelm Seidel in Oberwildgrub, Silesia, Austria, now part of the Czech Republic. He was the son of Bernhard and Johanna Schallner Seidel. His mother died in 1875 of Tuberculosis in Austria. His father died in 1908 in Polk County, Nebraska. Mr. Seidel was first married to Maria Gregor in 1884 while living in Austria. She came to America with him in July 1886 with their two oldest children, she died from complications of childbirth in 1893.
