Young Rehfeldt in company with Ted Bohstedt and Elden Richards, at Cedar Falls for a day's outing, had gone to the sand pit, known as Spring Lakes and manned with four life guards, for relief from the heat. The three Victor youths waded beyond the guard ropes and beyond their depths and all three went under at the same time. Rehfeldt and Bohstedt were unable to swim. Life Guards Rescue Two The two boys were rescued by the life guards but it was 10 minutes before Rehfeldt could be found. Firemen worked over him for two hours in vain attempt at resuscitation. Funeral services for the unfortunate lad were held Tuesday afternoon at the M.E. church in charge of the Rev. O. J. Fix who was assisted by the Rev. William Schobert. The church would not accommodate the vast concourse of friends and relatives who gathered to attend the last sad rites. Music was provided by a quartet composed of Mrs. Forrest Shaull, Marjorie Smith, Hollis Fish and W. R. Chittenden. Eight classmates carried the casket to its final resting place in the family lot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. William Russell Rehfeldt, son of William and Mary Rehfeldt, was born at the family home 3 1/2 miles southeast of Victor on Dec. 24, 1915. He received his elementary education in the rural school near his home and attended school at Victor during the last five years of his course where he was graduated from high in 1934. Graduated in 1934 He was an apt and eager student and interested in all phases of school activity, especially in basketball. For three years he was a member of the high school team and an outstanding player. Since his graduation Russell had assisted his father on the farm and this year was supervisor of the county roadwork in Hartford township. At an early age he united with the Methodist Episcopal church, having been baptized by the late Rev. O. E. McBride. He had been a regular attendant of Sunday school and church services either in town or at the Baptist church near his home. Left to mourn his untimely departure are his parents, one brother Robert Dean, one sister, Margaret Ann, one grandmother, Mrs. Anna Tanner and many other relatives and friends.
