Description	:	William S. "Bill" Burchard, 89, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, in Abilene. He was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Black Duck, Minn., the son of Samuel Melancthon and Rosa Lavina (Hawk) Burchard. In 1926, the family moved to Abilene, where he grew to manhood, attending the local schools and graduating from Abilene High School with the class of 1940. He was born Jan. 2, 1921, in Black Duck, Minn., the son of Samuel Melancthon and Rosa Lavina (Hawk) Burchard. In 1926, the family moved to Abilene, where he grew to manhood, attending the local schools and graduating from Abilene High School with the class of 1940. After high school, he was employed by Shockey and Landis before entering the Army in September 1942. On May 7, 1950, he married Marie Ilda Robson. All their married life was spent in Abilene. After retiring, Bill worked part time for the Abilene cemetery for nine years. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, D.A.V. and V.F.W. Survivors include his wife, Marie I. Burchard of Abilene; two daughters, Jean (Dennis) Cox of Stockton and Janice (Norman) Johnson of Leonardville; brother-in-law, Glen Hite of Abilene; grandchildren, Derek Trumpp of Orlando, Fla., Erin (Greg) Thomas-Baldwin of Wichita; Nicholas Cox of Wichita, Bryce (Lindsey) Trumpp of Topeka; Christine Cox of Stockton; Jennifer (Andy) Larson of Wichita, Charity Johnson of Leonardville and Jennie Johnson of Ogden; great-grandchildren, Riley, Sam, Emily and Nathaniel Larson of Wichita, Ava and Josephine Thomas-Baldwin of Wichita, Brilynn Trumpp of Topeka, and Treyvion Burkland of Olsburg; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Korn and Bon Hite; and two brothers, Dwight and Gilbert Burchard. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Keating officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Danner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in his name be given to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of Danner Funeral Home, P.O Box 758, Abilene, KS 67410.
