Rev. Alex. Bielaski, pastor of Kingsley Methodist Episcopal Church, of which Mr. Duckworth was a member, officiated. A choir of male voices sang appropriate hymns. Ohr Lodge, No. 131, Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons observed the Masonic service at the grave with Worshipful Master Herman O. Billmyer in charge. A deputation of Allegany Lodge, No. 31, Shield of Honor, was also present. Many fellow workers from the Ridgely shops attended the service and they sent two beautiful floral tributes. the Masons and the Shield of Honor were also represented among the many floral contributors. The casket was littered with flowers, and besides, carriage was filled with tributes while Messrs. Harry Irvine, Alfred Zihlman, Ward M. Eichelberger and R. J. Payne, as flower bearers. bore beautiful testimonials of the esteem in which Mr. Duckworth was held. Nearly 100 masons were in the procession. The pallbearers selected from Ohr Lodge were Messrs. Howard R. Kight, Edgar G. Cessna, Daniel McCarl, W. H. Burkett, Charles P. Crawford and Wm. A. Huster. HIS INJURIES PROVED FATAL: Wm. S. Duckworth Died Last Evening--Highly Esteemed Man. Mr. Duckworth, Who Was Hurt by the Blowing Out of a Cap While Repairing a Boiler, Died from Injuries. Mr. William Duckworth, the boiler maker who was injured at the shops over at Ridgely, W. Va., late yesterday afternoon, and taken to the Western Maryland Hospital, died last night without regaining consciousness. He was repairing a branch pipe when a cap seven inched in diameter was forced out, striking him on the forehead. At the hospital Dr. Hawkings, assisted by Drs. Littlefield and Sherrett, removed a number of fragments from Duckworth's skull and checked the hemorrhage, but the fracture was so severe and the injury to the brain so terrible, that survival skill could not do so. Mr. Duckworth was a native of Lonaconing where his aged mother resides. Mr. Duckworth was 41 years of age and highly esteemed by all who knew him. For 21 years he worked in Appleton mine, Lonaconing. Later, he was fireman at the electric railway power house at Reynolds. About five years ago he removed to Cumberland. Mr. Duckworth was Twice married. He is survived by his wife and three children, Daisy, William J. and John Duckworth, by his first marriage. Mrs. Duckworth was thrice married and the surviving step-children are Robbert Izzett of Midland; Isaac Izzett, of Midland and Mrs. Eva Dawson and Marshall Lohr. Mr. Duckworth also leaves one brother, Mr. Edward Duckworth, of Lonaconing. The funeral will occur on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the deceased residence, No. 83 Geothe street; and will be with Masonic honors. Mr. Duckworth was a member of Ohr Lodge, No. 131, A. F. and A. M., which will have charge of the funeral, and of McKinley Chapter, No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star, the Knights of Pythias and the Jr. O. U. A. M. He was also a member of Kingsley M. E. Church. The body was taken in charge by Undertaker Butler. --Published Saturday, January 22, 1910 in THE EVENING TIMES, Cumberland, Maryland on page 1, col. 3. SERIOUSLY INJURED: William Duckworth Met With a Peculiar Accident. Wm. Duckworth, a boiler maker employed in the Western Maryland shops over in Ridgeley, W. Va., was seriously injured this afternoon. He was engaged in cleaning an inspector with high pressure of steam, when the cap on the safety valve blew out, striking Mr. Duckworth in the head, inflicting a terrible wound. The company's surgeon, Dr. Littlefield, was called, who ordered the man taken to the Western Maryland Hospital. Mr. Duckworth resides on Goethe street and about 45 years of age.
