Description	:	The Ogden Reporter 23 Jan 1908 Boone County Democrat January 1908 The people of Ogden were inexpressibly grieved Monday evening to learn of the almost instant death of William Schwene, a prominent business man and manufacturer of that city, caused by being run over by the Northwestern passenger train No. 11, west bound, at 7:20 o'clock, a short distance from the depot in Ogden. Read More	The Ogden Reporter 23 Jan 1908 Boone County Democrat January 1908 The people of Ogden were inexpressibly grieved Monday evening to learn of the almost instant death of William Schwene, a prominent business man and manufacturer of that city, caused by being run over by the Northwestern passenger train No. 11, west bound, at 7:20 o'clock, a short distance from the depot in Ogden. He had started from his place of business about 7:00 o'clock to go to his home in the north part of Ogden. As he approached the railroad tracks an engine was standing beside the crossing letting off steam. This together with the noise prevented him from seeing or hearing the approaching fast train and just as he reached the center of the track he was struck down by the engine. He was badly bruised about the chest and head and death resulted almost instantly. Word was sent to Coroner Walker and that official went over Tuesday morning and conducted the inquest over the remains. Mr. Schwene was 33 years old and was born on a farm near Ogden and lived in this county all his life. He was the head of the Schwene Hardware Co., a firm that has been doing business in Ogden for many years. He was also inventor of the Apex Coaster Wagon and at the head of the company engaged in the manufacture of the wagon. He was a thorough business man of strict integrity and enjoyed the highest confidence and esteem of all his associates both in a business and social way. He is survived by a widow and two small children, his parents, two sisters and one brother, all residing in Ogden and the later being associated with him in business. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the German Lutheran church in Ogden of which he was a member.
