He was born in Monroe County, Ohio, November 19, 1844, a son of Abraham and Ruth Shriver. When he was twelve years old his parents moved to Wayne County, Iowa, and settled in Grand River Township, where he lived until manhood. In 1876 he located on the farm where he now lives, which contains 240 acres of valuable land, all under cultivation, and his improvements are among the best in the township. His residence is a two-story frame, finished and furnished in modern style, and his barn and other buildings are models of convenience and comfort. His farm is well stocked with the best grades, and his surroundings denote a thrifty and energetic farmer. He was married February 13, 1868, to Miss Hannah J. Thomas. They are the parents of eight children -- Sarah L., George A., Millard F., John A., Guy Leslie, Everett, Irvin and Olin.
