Description	:	"The many friends in this vicinity were greatly surprised and pained to learn that William S. Mason passed out of this life on Sunday the 17th at his home in Hardwick, as before mentioned in this paper. Quite recently he was here to attend the funeral of his sister, Mrs. A. B. Blake, acting as one of the bearers, and he was in his usual health at the time, but it appears that soon after returning to his home he had an attack of grip. Mason passed out of this life on Sunday the 17th at his home in Hardwick, as before mentioned in this paper. Quite recently he was here to attend the funeral of his sister, Mrs. A. B. Blake, acting as one of the bearers, and he was in his usual health at the time, but it appears that soon after returning to his home he had an attack of grip. He recovered from that and on the 10th inst he was taken ill, continuing to grow worse. The physicians deemed a surgical operation indispensable to save his life, and on Friday night he was operated on; but was unable to rally and died the following Sunday. Mr. Mason was born in Glover on Sept. 8, 1859 and spent forty-four years of his life in that town. He was married to Maud S. Owen, of Glover, on Dec. 24, 1888. They made their home in that town until ten years ago when they moved to Hardwick where they resided until his death. Mr. Mason was a man of more than ordinary intelligence, well informed, cheerful and social, kind hearted, an excellent neighbor, ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed. He held several important offices in Glover, performing his duties faithfully and satisfactorily. He belonged to the masonic order, being a member of Orleans lodge No. 55, and the order of the Eastern Star No. 13, of this place. He was a man who made many friends wherever he was and will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, two sons, Dan Mason who is just closing his second year in Middlebury college, and Clarence, Mason. He also leaves a brother, Reuben F. Mason of this place, besides more distant, relatives and numerous friends. The funeral services were held at the home in Hardwick, Rev. John Jones officiating. The body was taken to Glover for interment. Here a large number of masons from Barton and Glover, and many other friends assembled to do honor to the memory of a beloved brother. Rev. W. A. Warner officiated at the grave. There was a most beautiful display of flowers from the different orders and friends, evincing the respect and friendship of those who knew him. His surviving friends have the sympathy of all and they wish to extend their thanks to the many who have befriended them in this time of trouble." (Orleans County Monitor, 6/3/1914)
