Leonard Blinde, high school mu- sic instructor, was soloist, with Mrs. Ivoran Noe at the organ. Casket bearers were school- mates Blake Hultquist, Clem Lundberg, Steve Wagers, Dave Kemper, Larry Bergdale and Mark Squier. Bill had undergone surgery Thursday, April 22, after he was accidently hit behind the left ear with a golf ball when practic- ing with other West Sioux high schools students late that after- noon. Surgery was performed that night at which time he stopped breathing, after which he was kept alive with an artificial res- pirator and intravenous feeding. Immediately following the acci- dent he had played a couple of holes of golf but became ill and was taken home where he lapsed into unconsciousness from which he never recovered. Born in Hawarden March 3, 1948, Bill attended public schools in Hawarden and was a junior at West Sioux high school, serving as class president. He was active in basketball and golf, having the previous week won a golf tourna- ment when he shot an eagle. He was especially talented in music and was cast in high school productions, the latest of which was "Annie Get Your Gun" in which he played the part of a debonair promoter. Bill also was on the honor roll both this year and last. This year the Hawarden Amer- ican Legion had chosen him for Boys State and notification of this honor came to the family the same day as the accident. He was a member of the Meth- odist church, the Methodist Youth Fellowship and the church choir. Survivors include the parents at 1305 Eleventh street; two bro- thers, Charles H. Sedgwick, III, stationed at Homestead Air Force Base near Miami, Fla., and Tom, age 15, at home; two sisters, Ann, at Anaheim, Calif., and Carol, a freshman at State College of Io- wa, Cedar Falls; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. C. H. Sedgwick at 1200 Ninth street, Hawarden. He was also a nephew of Mrs. Lo- is Taggart, a teacher here resid- ing with her mother, Mrs. C. H. Sedgwick, and Mrs. Helen Akin, who resides here and teaches at Westfield, and Mrs. Martha Tag- gart, who has a home here but resides the greater part of the time at Springfield, Ill. The brothers and sisters had been called home at his illness and remained until after the fu- neral. Dr. G. S. Bruland conducted spe- cial funeral services at West Sioux high school Monday Morning. Stu- dents were taken by the busload to the funeral home to view the body. The high school students went en masse to the graveside for the interment rites that after- noon.
