The deed is supposed to have been committed during a fit of insanity. Coroner Mitchell was sent for, but he considered an inquest unnecessary. Jennings was a widower, his wife having died about four months ago. He leaves four children, from 2 to 12 years old. He was an old settler, coming here nearly 17 years ago. He had been in ill health for some time and had frequent attacks of melancholia since the death of his wife. Mrs. Dunn, who was keeping house for him, prepared supper, but Jennings refused to eat, saying he did not feel well and was not hungry. He retired early, but evidently did not remove any of his clothing but his shoes, for his body was found with clothing and socks on this morning. When breakfast was ready Friday morning investigation showed Jennings was not in the bedroom. A search was instituted and the body found lying on the hay in the barn with a bullet hole through the head from left to right and a small rifle lying across the body. Several of our citizens have thought that Jennings was acting queerly recently, and he is believed to have been insane. His father and a married sister are said to live at Kendrick, Idaho deceased was about 40 years old and was highly respected by those who knew him. He was the owner of two farms and was in comfortable circumstances. The funeral was held Sunday under the auspices of Colfax Lodge No. 14 A.0.U.W., interment being in Crampton cemetery on Spring flat. The Colfax gazette.
