Moon, of Milton, died at the hospital in Ottumwa last Saturday. The remains were brought to Milton, the funeral being held on Sunday. Mr. Moon had been a resident of Milton for almost 40 years. For the past year or more he has been an invalid and was being cared for in the hospital at Ottumwa. He was always identified with the business interests of Milton, Van Buren County, Iowa serving as city mayor for several terms. William Talbot Moon, youngest son of James C. and Lavina Moon, was born at Westboro, Ohio, October 29, 1850, and departed this life June 16, 1928, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 17 days. He was united in marriage to Arminda Pobst, April 6, 1869. To this union were born four children: Clara Moon Gilfillan of Cantril; Willis D. and Addie Moon Stephenson of Milton and Pearl Moon Kick of Farmington, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. The first fifteen years of their married life was spent in Westboro, Ohio, and then the family moved to Redwood Falls, Minn., and in 1890 they moved to Milton, Iowa, where the remainder of their life was spent. His devoted wife preceded him in death four years ago, and since then he has made his home with his children. The past two years he was afflicted with paralysis and for ten months was entirely helpless. The past four months he was at the hospital in Ottumwa until the messenger came and called him home. During the long years of his residence in Milton, Mr. Moon was always interested in promoting every thing for the best interests of the community. Twice he was chosen to serve the town as mayor, and he did it conscientiously and acceptably. Mr. Moon's natural mechanical ability made him a genius in that line of work which he followed the better part of his life. When a young boy he united with the Friends church where he remained until coming to Milton, when he transferred his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church, and was ever loyal to the faith. He loved the church and was always in attendance at the services when health permitted him to be present. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Dr. H. F. Gilbert, who preached from Psalms 31:15, "My times are in thy hands". Mrs. Geo. Holdefer, Mrs. H. F. Gilbert, John R. Holland and Howard bell sang several selections, Mrs. Sherwood at the piano. The interment was made in the Sunnyside cemetery by the side of his wife, who preceded him in death four years ago.
