Description	:	A long term pioneer resident of Drayton Valley, William Ted Tucker, passed away on July 1, 2019 at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre. Ted’s mother, Violet, was widowed during WW1, moved to Canada from England, and married Jack Tucker after the war. Ted was born in Drayton Valley on August 15, 1927 and spent most of his life in the area. He was the youngest of 7 children in the Bills/Tucker family. Read More	A long term pioneer resident of Drayton Valley, William Ted Tucker, passed away on July 1, 2019 at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre. Ted’s mother, Violet, was widowed during WW1, moved to Canada from England, and married Jack Tucker after the war. Ted was born in Drayton Valley on August 15, 1927 and spent most of his life in the area. He was the youngest of 7 children in the Bills/Tucker family. Ted left school at the age of 14 and was a logger, owned trucking companies, farmed but was probably most well known in the community for being the caretaker of the Drayton Valley Centennial Civic Centre from 1969 to 1975(ish) with Alec McQuaig and Mike Yurkewich. He enjoyed the time greatly when the Drayton Valley Rebels, Pembina Pipeliners and Norette Oilers were winning Provincial Championships on a regular basis. As much as he enjoyed the hockey, there was a caring concern that the ice was as great as could be of the members of the Drayton Valley Figure Skating Club. Married on December 8, 1950, Ted is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Tucker and their 5 sons, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Jack Tucker and Violet Tucker and half-siblings Johnny Bills, Daniel Bills, Winnie Bills (Jevne) and sisters; Evelyn Jensen, May Urchyshyn and his older brother Les Tucker. Ted was always welcoming to all guests in his house and never had a problem offering a coffee and some of Mom’s home-made treats. An annual important weekend with Ted was the Lodgepole Men’s Open Bonspiel where again, he never had a problem offering to have Mom make pancakes for any number of somewhat inebriated curlers at all hours of the day during that weekend. A sportsman his whole life, Ted played baseball as a young man and slow pitch into his 70’s. He always enjoyed his hunting trips with his bother Les and other cousins and friends from the Drayton Valley area and bonspiels with local characters from Lodgepole to Tomahawk.
