Description	:	William Thomas Baker, pioneer of Jefferson township, died December 3, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard Townsend, near Clearfield. He was born August 19, 1849, in Somerset, Ky., the son of Steven and Sarah Baker. After the death of his father, the family came in 1864 with ox team to Jefferson township, which was his home until 1934. He was married January 1, 1871, to Clara Bethlehem Flick, who preceded him in death June 3, 1934. Since that time he has made his home at the home of his daughter in Grant township. ... Read More	William Thomas Baker, pioneer of Jefferson township, died December 3, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard Townsend, near Clearfield. He was born August 19, 1849, in Somerset, Ky., the son of Steven and Sarah Baker. After the death of his father, the family came in 1864 with ox team to Jefferson township, which was his home until 1934. He was married January 1, 1871, to Clara Bethlehem Flick, who preceded him in death June 3, 1934. Since that time he has made his home at the home of his daughter in Grant township. He was a member of the Baptist church and also of the Odd Fellow lodge. Funeral services were on Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. G. B. Watterson, of Clearfield. Interment was made in the Knowlton cemetery, near the farm which had been his home nearly all of his long and useful life. Tom Baker was probably the oldest man in Ringgold county at the time of his death, and had lived on the same farm more years than any one now living in the county. He was a man who had the respect and love of his neighbors. His seven children are Mrs. Elfleta Duncan of Mitchell, S.D., Emmet, Harold and Mrs. Golda Butt of Newberg, Ore., James of Iola, Kan., Willard of Diagonal, Mrs. Flossie Townsend of Clearfield. Three nephews, Orville Baker of Wichita, Avalo (sic) Baker of Kingman, and Thomas Baker of Iola, Kan., and two nieces, Mrs. Josie Trollope of Wibaux, and Mrs. Fred Gustin of Caldwell, Idaho, 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive.
