Born December 13, 1925 in Buena Vista, he was the son of the late William T. Balser, Sr. and Linnie Rice Bryant and stepfather, Mack Bryant. Mr. Balser was a supervisor with C. E. Read More	U.S. Navy Veteran Served In World War II William Thomas "Billy" "Pop" Balser, Jr., 77, of Buena Vista, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born December 13, 1925 in Buena Vista, he was the son of the late William T. Balser, Sr. and Linnie Rice Bryant and stepfather, Mack Bryant. Mr. Balser was a supervisor with C. E. Thurston of Roanoke until his retirement. After retirement he was the owner of the Bee Hive Antique Store. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lexington Moose Lodge. He attended the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis "NaNan" Harrison Balser of Buena Vista; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Balser Mills and Clarence of Richmond; a grandson, Mark Lynn and Karen of Richmond; a great grandson, Sam Lynn; two sisters, Babe Woody and Evelyn Mason, both of Lexington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hylton and Mary Harrison of Buena Vista; sister-in-law, Marie Floyd of Forrest City, NC; brother-in-law, Joe Wilson of Chattanooga, TN and several special nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, at the graveside at the Green Hill Mausoleum with Rev. W. A. Mills officiating. The family received friends prior to the service, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lomax Funeral Home. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad or to the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund. Lomax Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
