Collins, age 93, a longtime Oak Ridger, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, surrounded by family after a long and bountiful life. He was born the son of Fred and Ethelyn Collins, both deceased, and considered St. Edward, Neb., his home. Mr. Collins served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and then graduated from the University of Omaha in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree in physics, relocating to Oak Ridge, Tenn., in 1954 with his family. He earned a master of science degree in physics from the University of Tennessee in 1964. After working at Union Carbide Corporation, K-25, for 26 years, he retired pursuing gardening, carpentry, metal fabrication and time with his family. He was a life time member of the Oak Ridge Sportsman Association and enjoyed many years of target shooting and hunting. He worked over 30 years researching the genealogy of his wife's family (WEED) and accumulating an extensive collection of information. Mr. Collins is considered a most loving and giving father and person. The family has been blessed by "Willie" as he shared his wisdom and caring among all the family and friends In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Adella G. Collins; brother, Larry Collins; and son, Kurt T. Collins. He is survived by his sisters, Dora Fowler of Omaha, Neb., Pat Cummings of Grand Island, Neb., and Gayle Werner and husband, Dick Werner, of St. Edward, Neb; son and daughter-in-law, Eugene T. and Emilie R. Collins of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter, Patti L. Collins of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two grandsons, Eric and Sean Collins; one granddaughter, Lacey R. (Tumlin) Limburg; two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Amelia Collins; great-grandson, James Limburg; and several other nieces and nephews in Nebraska. There will be no memorial service. Burial following cremation will be a private family gathering. In memory of Dad, the family requests friends enjoy a special dinner at a Mexican restaurant and make a toast to Dad or send a donation to Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties, 1050 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
