William Torrence, born on 10 March 1809, in Fairfield County, Ohio and died on 23 June 1889, at Roanoke, Huntington County, Indiana. He is buried in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery at Roanoke in Huntington County Indiana. He was the son of Robert Torrence (1782-1859) and his wife Katharine Shafer (1783-1858). William Torrence, born on 10 March 1809, in Fairfield County, Ohio and died on 23 June 1889, at Roanoke, Huntington County, Indiana. He is buried in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery at Roanoke in Huntington County Indiana. He was the son of Robert Torrence (1782-1859) and his wife Katharine Shafer (1783-1858). He married on 22 October 1829, in Liberty Township in Fairfield County, Ohio his first wife, Mary "Polly" Trovinger ( circa 1810-?), who died childless. After the death of his first wife, William married again on 30 November 1837, in Fairfield County, Ohio Rachel Henderson (1818-1853). They were the parents of: Lucretia Jane Torrence (1838-1873), Anna Catherine Torrence (1841-1899), James Henderson Torrence (1841-1864), a child who died in infancy (1843-1843), George Washington Torrrence (1844-1863), Rebecca Jane Torrence (1847-1847), Gustavus Adolphus Torrence (1847-?), Robert Torrence (1850-1850), William Adolphus Torrence (1853-1853). William Torrence married again after the death of his second wife, on 24 April 1856, to Mary Elizabeth Foy (1830-1856). Their union was childless. William married a fourth time, taking on 26 April 1857, the widow Eliza Jane (née Montgomery) Applegate (1828-1874). They were the parents of the following: A child who died infancy, Almah May Torrence (1846-1847), Marcellus Homlin Torrence (1863-1873), and Clara Belle Torrence. William married a fifth and final time after the death of his fourth wife. With great fanfare and celebration William married on 5 December 1876, in Allen County, Indiana the widow Anna Groves, born on 12 November 1852, in Fairfield County, Ohio. Unfortunately, this marriage was a sad one. Anna was addicted to the drug Ludlum and became known as "Midnight Annie," because she would wonder about town at night with a lantern and peer into people's windows.
