OBITUARY - William Barbee passed away at his home south of Albion at 3:45 o'clock Thursday morning, December 23rd. He was taken sick in October and since early in November was confined to the house, his ailment being cancer of the stomach. William Barbee was born in Galesburg, Illinois, October 16th, 1864, and grew to manhood there. When eighteen years of age he came to Ulysses, Nebraska, and January 20, 1886, was united in marriage to Lilly May Payne. Soon after their marriage they moved to Julesburg, Colorado where they resided for about five years. They moved from Julesburg to Gresham, Nebraska, where they lived until the spring of 1918, when they moved to this county, locating on what is known as the Kurth farm south of Albion. To this union were born twelve children, eight boys and four girls. The oldest child, Belle Barbee departed this life at York, Nebraska, in 1912, and one son, Ben Barbee, died while in training at Camp Funston, in December, 1917. In the year 1915, Mr. Barbee united with the Methodist church at Gresham and on coming to this community transferred his membership to the Albion Methodist church, remaining a faithful member until death claimed him. The funeral services were held from the house Christmas Day at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. G. H. Main, and interment made in Rose Hill cemetery.
