Lyhane, World War II Veteran, U.S. Army. ************************************************************ Topeka Capital - Journal, 9/11/2001 Obituary Marysville -- William "Bill" Lyhane, 74, Marysville, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at the Marysville nursing home. He was born June 27, 1927, in Hollenberg, to William and Sophia Materi Lyhane. He graduated from Morrowville High School in 1945. He attended a military school at Fort Smith, Ark. He was in the Army for eight years, having served as a clerk at the Far East headquarters in Japan before he was discharged in 1953. He moved to Marysville in 1956 and began work for the Kansas Highway Department. After 20 years, he left the highway department and began doing testing and inspections for several engineering firms in the Marysville area. He also worked for Washington County Water District No. 1. He was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Juanita Bieker on July 25, 1955, in Schoenchen in Ellis County. They operated Club 36 in Marysville for about 30 years. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Michael Lyhane and David Lyhane, both in Marysville, Anthony Lyhane, North Platte, Neb.; a sister, Delores Miller, Shawnee; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Burial will be in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery in Marysville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville and after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
