Description	:	William Vance "Bill" Barton, age 81, of Shady Valley, Tenn., died on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital, in Abingdon, Va., following an extended illness. He was born in Independence, Va., on April 25, 1937, son of the late Rev. Bryce and Alice Osborne Barton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Libby Foster.Bill lived in North Carolina for several years before moving to Bristol, Va. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Shady Valley, Tenn. William is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Glenna Scott Long Barton; three sons, Billy Barton and wife, Lisa, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tim Barton of Tampa, Fla., and Chuck Barton and wife, Sarah, of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Jones and Dr. Shine and all the wonderful caretakers and staff who cared for Bill while in Mountain City Care and Rehab and blessings to all the many friends and Bro. Eddie Porter for their love and support. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2019, in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2019, in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Porter officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at the Grubbs Chapel Cemetery, Flat Ridge Road, in Independence, Va., after the service. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Victory Baptist Church, Shady Valley, TN 37688, or the Shady Valley Fire Department, 10114 Hwy. 421 N., Shady Valley, TN 37688.
