Gahagan, 85 years old, passed away peacefully at Valley Healthcare on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, of natural causes. Bill was born June 19, 1925, in Worden, to Paul and Violet Gahagan. He graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1944 and later entered the U.S. Army to fight in the Korean War on Okinawa, where he was in charge of several POWs and served with honor until his release in 1947. Bill returned to the family farm and worked until he started his career in the auto parts business for the next 20 years. Bill spent the following 20 years working for the Billings school district until his retirement in 1995. Upon returning from the Army, Bill met the love of his life, Florence Hofferber, and on June 30, 1947, they were married. Bill and Florence spent 63 wonderful years together and would travel to Arizona as snowbirds until he developed diabetes and decided to stay closer to his family. Bill took great pride in working in his yard and garden and was meticulous about how he kept up their home. In his last years, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren brought so much joy into his life. Bill is survived by his wife Florence; sister Pauline Yarborough; son Gary Gahagan and his wife Susan, daughter Carol Graves; grandsons Matthew and his wife Becky, Brian, Greg and Cody, his great-grandchildren, Grady and Reilly Gahagan. Cremation has taken place and, at Bill's request, no services are planned. His interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Beth, Cindy, Joyce and Kevin from RiverStone Hospice for their care and support for dad in his final days. We would also like to thank the staff at Valley Healthcare for their compassion and caring in his last few hours of life. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to RiverStone Hospice, 711 Central Ave., Billings, MT 59102 or to the charity of your choice.
