I was unable to locate John on findagrave, but the notice provides some neat personal information, so I wanted to pass it along. Death notice in the Salem (N.Y.) Press, published 26 June 1874: - On Friday, May 8th, 1-1/2 miles northwest of Prairie City, Iowa, Mr. John Bamsey, aged 81 years. Mr. B. was a soldier of the war of 1812, received a bounty of 320 acres of land and $124.00 in money, in the state of New York, where he had resided until within two years, when he removed to the place where he died. He was born in England, and came to this country early in life. He was the father of Mr. Wm. Bamsey, and was much respected. Mr. Bamsey was formerly a resident of this town.
