In 1836 he married Mary B. Dean, by whom he had nine children, seven of whom survive. At the time of his death, Mr. Walker was the oldest citizen of this town... joined the Baptist Church in 1839". William is buried in the Magnolia cemetery, Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is buried in the family plot with his parents. His tombstone reads as follows: " In Memory of WILLIAM WALKER W.H. who died Dec'r 30,1857 in the sixty fifth yr of his age. Into thy hands O! God I commit my spirit ". According to South Carolina genealogist, Brent H. Holcomb, the initials W.H. after William's name were used to distinguish the numerous William Walkers that lived in the area at the same time.
