He was a lawyer; manager of the East Rainelle Greenbrier Hotel which he established in 1910; a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1931 and 1932; sergeant-at-arms of the House of Delegates in 1933; and served as mayor of East Rainelle for two terms.
