Description	:	Mr. William Starkenburg, age 93, of Orange City, passed away Thursday, December 30, 1999 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 1, at 10:30 am, at the Alton Presbyterian Church in Alton. The Rev. Stanley W. Vander Weide officiated. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. The Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City was in charge of arrangements. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. The Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City was in charge of arrangements. William Wayne was born February 12, 1906, at Volga, South Dakota, the son of Sjored and Catherine "Kate" (Van Laar) Starkenburg. He was raised at Volga and Bigelow, Minnesota. On April 18, 1930, he married Genevieve Marie Kuyper at Le Mars. They made their home in Alton, where "Bill" was employed by the Sioux County Road Department, the Alton Cement Works, and the City of Alton, serving as policeman for thirty years. He retired about 1980. Mrs. Starkenburg passed away August 30, 1995, in Orange City. In December of 1998, Mr. Starkenburg became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. He was a member of the Alton Presbyterian Church. Bill enjoyed bowling. Survivors include his three daughter and their husbands, Beverly and Albert Mouw, and Wanda and Marvin Zeutenhorst, all of Orange City; and Carol and Kenneth Kooistra, of Forsyth, Missouri; six grandchildren, Sue Mars, Cindy Baker, Dennis Zeutenhorst, Deane Walburg, Kenneth Kooistra, Jr., and Kristi Kooistra; nine great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Root, of Bellflower, California. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Zeutenhorst Rozeboom; four brothers, George (in infancy), John, Fred, and Garrett; and two sisters, Ollie Brower and Arlene Castle.
