Description	:	William (Wilk or W.W.)was the son of Charles and Maria Peters Wallace. He married Sarah Pope Jan. 27, 1859 in Jasper Co., Iowa. They had nine children, only two reached adulthood, Eliza and Archie. Wilk served with Co. E 14th IA. Inf. Regt. during the Civil War.∼W.W. Wallace was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. To them were born 9 children, only two of whom are living, Mrs. Cavatt of Des Moines and A. C. Wallace of Runnells. Mr. Wallace enlisted in the Civil War on Sept. 28, 1861 and served until he was mustered out Jan. 22, 1865. He fought in the battles of Shiloh, Ft. Donaldson, Pleasantville Hill and many other important battles. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Pleasant Hill and served eight months in prison at Ft. Tyler, Texas. He became a member of Preston Masonic Lodge at Prairie City in July 1874 from where he demitted to become a charter member of the Faithful Lodge at Runnells. Being a devout and active member until death. Uncle "Wilk" as every one used to love to call him had always enjoyed good health and death which came very suddenly was a great shock to the community. He had been to town as was his usual custom and stopped at the home of Mrs. Charles Martin where he soon passed away. He had often wished that his end might come suddenly and kind providence rewarded his request. He was of a pleasant disposition and many will miss his good natured good morning and hand shake. The funeral service was held from the Congregational church, the Rev. David Joping officiating. He was laid to rest in the Vandalia cemetery, the Masonic Lodge of Runnells in charge. W.W. Wallace Des Moines Capital Des Moines, Iowa January 20, 1919 W.W. Wallace died January 14, at the age of 87 years at his home in Runnells, Iowa, of heart failure. Funeral services were held from the Congregational church at Runnells. Mr. Wallace was born Jan. 15, 1832, and married Miss Sarah Pope in 1859. He was the father of nine children two of whom Mrs. Jennie Cavett of Des Moines and A.C. Wallace of Runnells survive him. A sister, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter also survive him. Mr. Wallace was a blacksmith and had been employed at that trade for 51 years. He was a Civil War veteran and a charter member of the Faithful lodge, No. 448, A.F. and A.M., of Runnells.
