Description	:	Hester Absher Morrison, born and raised in Wilkes County, left this world behind in the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Bill and Debbi Wright. Hester was 94 years old. She leaves behind three children, Jerry Morrison (Kathy), Brenda Adams and Debra Wright (William). Hester had three grandchildren, Houston Rice, Kim Smith and Cindy Langley; and two great -grandchildren, Georgia Langley and Spencer Langley. Preceding Hester in death were her two husbands, James D. Hester was 94 years old. She leaves behind three children, Jerry Morrison (Kathy), Brenda Adams and Debra Wright (William). Hester had three grandchildren, Houston Rice, Kim Smith and Cindy Langley; and two great -grandchildren, Georgia Langley and Spencer Langley. Preceding Hester in death were her two husbands, James D. Morrison and Boyd Cooke, both of Wilkes County. Hester was a very colorful figure in Wilkes during the 1950s. She helped her brother-in-law, Shike Stone, start Shike's Place on Highway 268. Later, she opened Hester's Drive-In. Although Hester was not running the cafe all the time, her hot dogs were so good that some called her the "Hotdog Queen." During this time, B&L Motors fixed Hester a hot rod car and she and her sister, Wilma, were the first ladies to race at the North Wilkesboro Drag Strip. During one December, there was a contest with a horse as the prize. Hester told her friends if she won that horse (which happened to be a descendant of the horse she had as a child), she would ride it down Main Street in North Wilkesboro on Christmas Day. Hester won the horse and she, along with her son, Jerry, and a friend, Bob Kite, who owned several horses, rode horses down Main Street on Christmas Day. This was the beginning of the Christmas Parade in North Wilkesboro. Hester and J. D. moved their family to Daytona Beach in 1959, where she was a real estate agent and a mortgage broker for over 15 years. After retirement, Hester lived in Wilkes County and in Florida.
