Description	:	Willie Jarvis Bates, 79, of 1844 North Oak Ridge Church Road Yadkinville, NC, devoted, loving husband, father, and grandfather went home to be with his Lord on June 28, 2009. He lived his life telling people about the Lord. His passion was his church, family, and farming. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing with 28 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Roberts Bates, parents, Roy and Rhoda Bates, mother-in-law and father-in-law, William and Pricilla Roberts, brother, Cleo bates, sister, Lucille Campbell, son-in-law, Alvin Bell, brothers-in-law, Leonard Vestal, Vance Campbell; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Surviving family are his children, Nancy Bell, Yadkinville; Betty (Ronald) Poindexter, Boonville; Thelma (Hank) Durham, Yadkinville; Bill (April) Bates, Boonville; Ralph (Tesheka) Bates, Boonville; Shelby Bates, Boonville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers and sisters, Minnie Vestal, Yadkinville; Harvey (Sandy) Bates, Boonville; Gray Bates, King; and several special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Mr. Bates will be taken to the church, where friends and family can visit after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009 and remain at the church to lie in-state until his funeral service. The funeral service will be held 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Gospel Chapel Church, with Rev. Terry Coe, Rev. Ralph Casstevens, Rev. Walt Phillips, Rev. J.P. Sizemore, and Rev. Roy Nixon officiating. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to the multitude of family, friends, and neighbors who have shown their love and support to Mr. Bates.
