Wells , 85, of Ireton was carried home in his heavenly Father's arms on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, with the Rev. Marcel Kohlmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Willis Alexander Wells was born March 30, 1922, near Ireton, Iowa, to Frank and Alice (McDougal) Wells . He graduated from Ireton High School in 1939. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed spending time on his farm north of Ireton. He moved to town in 1980 and continued farming with his son. He married Lorraine Johnson on Nov. 25, 1943, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They had two children, Larry and Mark. His son, Larry, died in 1969 as the result of a tragic automobile accident. Willis attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church and held the offices of elder, trustee, youth counselor and was on the finance committee. He was also a member of the Lutheran Layman's League. He played junior league baseball and competed in Golden Glove boxing tournaments. He also enjoyed bowling. He was country school director, 4-H leader, served on the Farmer's Co-op board and was a supervisor for OsGold Seed Company. For several years, he served as weed commissioner for Sioux County. Willis enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and growing flowers, fruits and vegetables. He took great pleasure in sharing his produce with family and friends. He especially loved growing roses. Willis and his wife Lorraine loved traveling and especially loved spending their winters in Arizona, which they did for 20 years. He dearly enjoyed time spent with friends and family. He appreciated his time on this earth and will be dearly missed. He will always be remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 63 years, Lorraine of Ireton; a son, Mark and his wife, Julie of Ireton; two granddaughters, Sarah Wells and Megan Wells , both of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Charles Wells of Hawarden, and Merle Wells and his wife, Beverly of Ireton; and several nieces and nephews. Willis was preceded in death by his son, Larry; his parents; two brothers, Milton and Allen; and three sisters, Mildred, Shirley and Kathryn.
