Keenan, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 369th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 93d Division, A.E.F., in the Champagne Sector, France, September 26 to 1 October 1918. Although suffering from illness, First Lieutenant Keenan remained on duty day and night throughout the engagement. In the attack on Sechault he exposed himself continuously to intense artillery and machine-gun fire while rendering first aid.
