Read More	Willis Lloyd McCormick was born February 11, 1927 in Holyoke and died December 31, 2002 in Holyoke. He was the first son of Lloyd Critchlow McCormick and Mildred Yates, growing up in the Wages community. "Willie" had a lifelong love of baseball beginning in childhood. He played on the Wages men's baseball team as a teen, and on the Eckley men's baseball team. He is remembered throughout eastern Colorado for his skill as a pitcher and shortstop. Even into his early 50s, as a softball player, Willis was known as "the best glove in Holyoke." Willis was a charter member of the Phillips County High School National Honor Society, where he graduated in 1945. He served his country in the Army in 1945-46. He returned to the Holyoke area, married Norma Yowell, and farmed in the Wages area for many years. In 1967 he moved his family to Auburn, Washington where he was employed by Boeing. The family returned to Holyoke in 1971 and Willis worked at the Holyoke Co-op until his retirement in 1985. Willis was a member of the Wages Church, the American Legion and the VFW. Willis is remembered by relatives and numerous friends as a kind and gentle man, full of integrity and one that always displayed a genuine interest in others. His life-long hobbies included arrowhead hunting and playing cribbage. He loved practical jokes, a good book, crossword puzzles, seafood and long conversations over coffee. He deeply loved his family and his greatest joy was when they were all together. Willis was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 45 years, Norma. He is survived by his five children and their families; Neal McCormick and wife Irene of Holyoke; Dallas McCormick and wife Laurie of Marysville, Washington; Gale McCormick and wife Londa of Imperial, Nebraska; Narda Poe and husband Dan of Midland, Texas; and Nola Kramer and husband Maury of Amherst. He is also survived by his brothers, Lyle McCormick of Bellvue, Eldon McCormick of Holyoke, and Dale McCormick of Spokane, Washington; 16 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held Friday, January 3, 2003 at First United Methodist Church in Holyoke and directed by Jerry Roberts of Roberts-Baucke Funeral Service. Interment was made in Holyoke Memorial Park.
