Description	:	Willis Merle Pueppke was born in Sheldon, N.D., on Oct. 26, 1919. When he was a young boy he moved with his parents to a farm in Antelope County. He attended school and graduated from high school in Neligh in 1938. After graduating he worked as a local farmhand. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army. After training he was shipped to Africa as a member of the 5th Army and was assigned to an anti-aircraft battalion. From Africa his unit was part of the invasion of Italy. In all he took part in three major invasions and... Read More	Willis Merle Pueppke was born in Sheldon, N.D., on Oct. 26, 1919. When he was a young boy he moved with his parents to a farm in Antelope County. He attended school and graduated from high school in Neligh in 1938. After graduating he worked as a local farmhand. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army. After training he was shipped to Africa as a member of the 5th Army and was assigned to an anti-aircraft battalion. From Africa his unit was part of the invasion of Italy. In all he took part in three major invasions and was in Germany when the War in Europe ended. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of tech 5 and returned to his parents' farm in Antelope County. He remained on the farm until 2004 when he suffered a small stroke, which resulted in a fall and a broken hip. He moved to Milford with his nephew and then to Crestview Nursing Home where he resided until his passing on April 14, 2010. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara, father Delwin, brother Duane, sister Florayne and a stillborn brother. He is survived by sister-in-law Phyllis Pueppke and her five children and his sister Florayne's son. The family would like to acknowledge the Wilber and Eleanor Rakow family for their many years as friends and neighbors to Willis and to their son Tom for the many visits to Willis while he resided in the nursing home in Milford. NELIGH — Services for Willis Pueppke, 90, of Neligh will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Beyer Funeral Home with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery and military rites by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday. He died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Crestview Care Center in Milford.
