Read More	Willora "Billie" Scothern Brown passed away in Silver City, N. M., on Jan. 8, 2014, at the Silver City Care Center. Born in a private home in Billings, Mont., on Oct. 18, 1921, to William Andrew and Mary Willora (Lambert) Scothern, she was raised on the family ranch north of Pompey's Pillar. Notwithstanding homestead hardships and a lack of material things, Willora recalled her childhood as a very happy time. One story she loved to share was of her father trading a cow for a piano, so she could take piano lessons. She never heard the end of that trade, as the cow gave birth to twins less than a month after the deal was made, this was the only cow her father could recall owning that gave birth to twins. Willora attended Bundy School, two miles from her home, her first eight years of school; graduating from Huntley Project High School in 1939, she went on to attend Billings Business College. Her education led her into a career as a secretary, first in Billings, then in Seattle for Boeing Company. In the summer of 1945, Willora attended a picnic/dance with her brother, Bubs, promising each other to solely dance with one another. Unfortunately for Bubs, Captain John Carroll Brown, on leave from his duties as a B-17 Bomber pilot in the European Theatre during World War II, attended the event. John and Willora danced the entire time together; within a few days they were engaged. Married Dec. 27, 1945, they moved to Long Beach, Calif., while John finished his military career. In October 1946, they returned to Montana, where John worked for Arkwright Construction. In the fall of 1948, they leased the Scothern Ranch, later purchasing it and surrounding land, renaming it Brown Acres, Inc. They raised two boys, Stanley William and John Richard on the ranch. Willora's time was mostly spent housekeeping, including feeding and caring for her three men. In her eyes, there was never anybody better than her boys. Her cooking was as good as anybody in the county, and she could satisfy the biggest and hungriest cowboy crews. Willora also enjoyed her membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. She rose through the chairs at Jephthah Chapter #116 in Worden, then through the chairs of Grand Chapter for the State of Montana. She ultimately became Worthy Grand Matron for Montana during 1991 and 1992. She and John spent the entire year traveling to all the chapters in Montana and visiting other chapters and meetings around the USA and Canada. John and Willora moved to Billings in 1990. Retiring from Brown Acres, they spent many happy years traveling around North America, socializing with loved ones, and enjoying time with their granddaughters. John passed away in 2005. When Stan moved to New Mexico in 2007, Willora quickly sold her home in Billings, moving close to Stan. As her health declined, she moved in with Stan and Tammy at the Caprock Mountain Ranch near Lordsburg, N. M. After three years, they could no longer provide the care she needed, last fall they entrusted her to the loving people of Silver City Care Center. They took very good care of her until her death. Willora is survived by her two boys: Stanley William (Tammy) and John Richard (Jennifer); and her three granddaughters: Amanda, Kelly, and Morgan. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 18, at Smith Funeral Chapel, 925 South 27th St, Billings. Interment will follow at Pleasantview Cemetery, Ballantine, MT. A reception will follow at Huntley Project Masonic Hall in Worden. Memorials may be sent to the Jephthah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star c/o Jan Lambert, 504 Pickens Road, Huntley, MT 59037.
