WIDOWSVILLE One by one the old pioneers are called to join the "might throng" and pass from this life to eternity to receive the final reward. Last Saturday evening at 7 o'clock the spirit of Wilson Giffin took its flight from earth to join those who have gone to the kingdom above. The subject of our sketch was born in Allegheny county, Pa., February 25th, 1811 and moved to this county in 1849, residing in this and Mifflin townships ever since. He was in many respects a remarkable man. Without the advantage of an early education, yet he was a man of good judgment and strong mental faculties. He served as assessor six or seven terms in this township and retired only on account of old age, being a Democrat of the old school and cast his first vote for Andrew Jackson's re-election in the presidency in 1832. He never missed an election and always took a keen interest and was well posted in politics. His faithful wife, a son and a daughter preceded him to the grave. Two daughters lived with their father caring for him in his old age. He was the father of eight children, six living. His grandchildren numbered twenty-two and great grandchildren thirty-three. He has for many years a faithful member of the M. P. church. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Kipler in the M. E. church at this place Monday, and the remains were laid to rest by the side of those of his wife in the Hayesville cemetery.
