Description	:	Our beloved Wilma Bell Ashcraft passed into everlasting life a little past 9:00 AM on Sunday, November 8, 2020, in Snohomish, Washington. She was 101 years old. Wilma was born in St. Lawrence, South Dakota in 1919 to her parents, Sylvia and Mason Ford. After graduating from high school, she earned a teaching degree and taught in a one room school house. While teaching, she secretly married the love of her life, Arthur Ashcraft, on the 22nd of March, 1940. Read More	Our beloved Wilma Bell Ashcraft passed into everlasting life a little past 9:00 AM on Sunday, November 8, 2020, in Snohomish, Washington. She was 101 years old. Wilma was born in St. Lawrence, South Dakota in 1919 to her parents, Sylvia and Mason Ford. After graduating from high school, she earned a teaching degree and taught in a one room school house. While teaching, she secretly married the love of her life, Arthur Ashcraft, on the 22nd of March, 1940. Secretly married, because in South Dakota in those days a married woman was not allowed to teach public school. Later in life, when her two children had become young adults, she went back to school and earned an A.A. degree in Early Childhood Education at Everett Community College. In 1941, their son, Robert (Bob) was born. And in 1942, their daughter, Judith (Judy) was born, after having just moved across country to Washington state. The little family's first home here in Washington was a freshly scrubbed, enclosed, and whitewashed chicken coop that Wilma's parents had prepared for them. Wilma's life was centered around her loved ones, her home, her faith, and the Methodist Church. Her fiercely loving nature led her and her husband, Art, to open their home and hearts to become foster parents in Snohomish County to over 300 children, over many years. Later, some of those very children, then as grown-ups with children of their own, attended her 80th birthday celebration, in order to honor her life and her spirit—even so many years later! An incredibly talented and gifted woman, she and Art—who truly was her partner in life—built and created beauty and comfort wherever they lived and for whomever they could—through her boundless creative skills, Art's craftsman carpentry skills, and their generous hospitality. They were both true "Makers," and those lifelong skills and loves were shared with and passed on through their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. One of their most memorable homes was a big red house in the Historic District of Snohomish on Ave C, where they lived until 1989. It will always be remembered as a place of light, love, laughter, warmth, and family for all of us. And when they moved to their smaller house near Blackman's Lake, they made that home a beautiful, bright, warm place of gathering and love as well. In every home they lived in, Wilma and Art together expressed their many skills and creative vision in beautifully decorated interiors and bright, colorful gardens. Their homes have been on the Snohomish Home Tour and the Garden Tour. We know that Wilma was joyfully welcomed by those loved ones and friends who preceded her in death, especially by Art, and their precious son, Bob, who died tragically at age 21 in a car accident. Wilma was also preceded in death by her father and mother, her three brothers, and a sister. She is survived by her daughter, Judy and son-in-law, Bill; grandchildren: Suzie Ashcraft, Robin Duffy (Michael), Rebecca Gipson (Champ), Amanda Smith (Russell), Corey Gordon (Shawnee), Darren Gordon (Erin); 12 great-grandchildren: Kimi, Joseph, Jamie, Jessie, Kiana, Chad, Melinda, Allison, Laura, Anthony, Sarah, and Alyssa; her beloved nieces, Leola Froembgen and her son, Jay, Margie Bapp (Walt) and a nephew, Tony Majoras; a cousin, Noel Alves (Mo) and her daughter, Hannahlee; 1 great-great-granddaughter, Aria Perez; and many special family and friends. As her family, we all wish to thank Snohomish Health and Rehabilitation for their loving and kind care of Wilma for over 7 years, and dear Snohomish United Methodist Church friends, Janet and Tina, for their visits, and the Snohomish United Methodist Women for the thoughtful cards sent to her. There will be a celebration of her life at a later time, when family and friends can safely be together. Finally, we, her loved ones, express our deepest love and gratitude for Wilma: for giving us all of the love and time that she could share. For her generosity, her hospitality, her cleverness, her humor, and her warm, glowing beauty that radiated from within her. She shared herself with us, in all her lovely humanness. Her grace and her deeply hopeful strength continue to live on in each of us, just as brightly and fiercely as she, herself, lived. We love you Mom, Gramma, Great Gramma, Great-Great Gramma, and dear friend! We know that we will see one another's dear faces again. What joy that will be! March 1, 1919 - November 8, 2020
