SHELTON Wilma Shelton was born January 6, 1921 to Ray and Carrie Shelton on the Shelton farm east of Norwood in Lucas County, Iowa. She graduated from Norwood High School in 1939 and graduated from Simpson College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1966. She worked as a teacher in one-room schools for 9 years, Norwood Consolidated School for 4 years and the Chariton Schools for 24 years, teaching at Garfield, Williamson and Columbus locations, grades 4 and 5. SHELTON Wilma Shelton was born January 6, 1921 to Ray and Carrie Shelton on the Shelton farm east of Norwood in Lucas County, Iowa. She graduated from Norwood High School in 1939 and graduated from Simpson College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1966. She worked as a teacher in one-room schools for 9 years, Norwood Consolidated School for 4 years and the Chariton Schools for 24 years, teaching at Garfield, Williamson and Columbus locations, grades 4 and 5. She worked for the ASCS office in Chariton from 1958 to 1960. She retired from teaching in 1985. Wilma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chariton and volunteered at Inner Church Ministries Association and the Chariton Library. She was part of the Chariton Women's Club, Lucas County Retired School Personnel, Lucas County Hospital Auxiliary and the Lucas County Historical Museum. Wilma taught Bible School at her church in Norwood and Chariton for many years. She enjoyed collecting poems and family history. Faith, family, church and education were very important to Wilma and she especially enjoyed the annual family Christmas gatherings. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Nancy Berniece Crawford Hass, Lois Marilyn and an infant sister. She is survived by her brother, Vernon (Thelma) Shelton of Waukee; nieces and nephews Donald (Frances) Crawford, Carol (Dave) Peregoy, Karen Hass, Sheri Shelton, Douglas (Brenda) Shelton and Trisha (Rob) Gray and 5 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews. Wilma passed away July 8, 2013 at Legacy Lodge in Chariton. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at Fielding Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Norwood Cemetery following luncheon.
