A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Trinity Episcopal Church, El Dorado, with a reception to follow. The Rev. Christine Gilson will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wilma Don’s life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Allyn Mosier McGinnis, of El Dorado. Wilma Don was born on Aug. 20, 1929 in Chanute, to Robert M. and Fern Elliott Willis. She grew up in Topeka and attended Topeka High School. She graduated from Washburn University in 1951, where she majored in Liberal Arts and was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She married Allyn McGinnis in June, 1951. They moved to El Dorado in 1955 when he entered his father’s law practice. After his death in 1985, she worked in the library at Butler Community College, where she developed a section on pioneer women. She retired in 1994. In July of 2014 she moved to Georgia to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Her children remember her as a wonderfully kind and patient parent who encouraged them to pursue their goals and interests. Wilma Don was a devoted wife and mother, as well as an avid reader, gardener, decorator and gifted artist. A member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, she supported their efforts to promote educational opportunities for women. She will be remembered as a generous and thoughtful individual, deeply devoted to her faith, and active in her church, Trinity Episcopal. In addition, the family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Sharon Craddock, CNA, for her capable and devoted care since August, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please send donations either to Trinity Episcopal Church, 400 W. Ash, El Dorado, KS 67042, or to Heifer International, www.heifer.org, which provides farm animals to needy families around the world.
