Description	:	Wilma E. Saunders (October 25, 1921 - March 18, 2009) Wilma Saunders, 87, of Highland, died Wednesday evening, March 18, 2009, at her home. She was born October 25, 1921, at Fanning, one of nine children of William E. and Wilma Taylor Twombly and was a lifelong Doniphan County resident. She grew up in the Fanning-Sparks area where she attended school, later graduating from Sparks High School. Mrs. Saunders was a longtime member of the Community of Christ at Fanning. Saunders (October 25, 1921 - March 18, 2009) Wilma Saunders, 87, of Highland, died Wednesday evening, March 18, 2009, at her home. She was born October 25, 1921, at Fanning, one of nine children of William E. and Wilma Taylor Twombly and was a lifelong Doniphan County resident. She grew up in the Fanning-Sparks area where she attended school, later graduating from Sparks High School. Mrs. Saunders was a longtime member of the Community of Christ at Fanning. She was a devoted wife and mother, a great cook, enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. Wilma married Arthur "Tooter" Saunders, November 21, 1942, at her parent's home in Sparks. They farmed and raised livestock near Highland before retiring and moving to Highland in 1977. He died December 6, 1988. Survivors include two sons Bill (Carolyn) Saunders of Troy, David Saunders of Highland; three brothers Leonard (Betty) Twombly, Bill (Beverly) Twombly, both of Troy, Bob (Kathleen) Twombly of Highland; two sisters Ruth (Robert) Turner of Independence, MO, Jean (Conrad) Johnson of Troy; sister in law Shirley Twombly of Highland; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Sam Twombly, George Twombly, and David Twombly. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Community of Christ in Fanning. Don Harter will officiate. Interment will follow at Moray Cemetery, north of Bendena. Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Friday. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the Church.
