Wilma Emma Schneider was born on Nov. 23, 1926 to Rudolph and Louisa (Musolf) Schneider of rural Yale, SD. As a child the family moved to rural Bridgewater, where she graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1944. That same year the family moved to rural Oldham, where she met James Abrahamson. They were married at Oldham Lutheran Church in Oldham on June 9, 1946 and lived on the Abrahamson family farm, where they worked as a team raising three sons. Upon retiring in 1988, they sold the farm and bought a home in De Smet. In 2008, they moved from their home to the Railroad Apartments where they enjoyed visits from family and friends and made new friends with their hospitable neighbors. Following James’ death 2010, Wilma continued to live at the Railroad Apartments until last March, when she moved to Silver Plains Assisted Living in Lake Preston. She enjoyed gardening and baking. She sewed quilts for many family members, as well as for refugees through her participation in the quilting circles at Oldham Lutheran Church and later at American Lutheran Church. She was treasurer of the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery for many years. Survivors include three sons, Roger of De Smet, Gayle (Jane Palmer) of Loveland, CO, and Jerry (special friend Kari Getzinger) of De Smet; three grandsons; Jared of Pueblo, CO, Philip (Erin Bettendorf) of St. Paul, MN, and Greg (Samatha) of Yukon, OK, and one greatgrandson, Rowan, of St. Paul. Wilma also served as an extra grandparent to Jane’s two children and Jane and Gayle’s grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Doris Bjorkman of Chatfield, MN, and one sister-in-law, Orpha (Peterson) Abrahamson of Sioux Falls, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, Rudolph and Louisa Shneider, four brothers, Alvin, Alfred, Dale and Leo Schneider, and two sisters, Edna Sievers and Linda Bickett. - Osthus Funeral Home
