Services were in Alexandria Wednesday at Bethesda Lutheran Church with the Rev. Peter Martinson and the Rev. Neal Olson officiating. Wilma Evonne Vermeer was born October 7, 1939, in Sioux Center to William and Ann (Schuiteman) Hulstein and was baptized at First Reformed Church. She attended country school near Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1957. She married Carl Vermeer August 14, 1958. They had three daughters, Christi, Carla and Barbara. Carla died shortly after birth. They lived in Sioux Center until 1961 when they moved to Alexandria. They moved to Long Prairie, Minnesota, in 1965 and lived there for 22 years, then returned to Alexandria in 1987. In addition to caring for her family, she worked as a dental assistant at the Long Prairie Dental Clinic. She was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed reading, biking, walking and handwork. Spending time with her family was important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Survivors are her husband; daughter Christi and her husband Alan Nelson and their three children of Alexandria; daughter Barbara and her husband Gregory Weiss and their three children of Rochester, Minnesota; a brother, Gary Hulstein of Soldier; two sisters, Harriet Vermeer of Sioux Center and Vernie Van Engelenhoven of Orange City. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Hulstein; and an infant daughter, Carla Beth. Sioux Center News 1999-07-21.
