Wilma was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Wolbach, NE. to Ralph Neale and Ethel M. (Prewitt) Sutton. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Max Butts. Wilma was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Wolbach, NE. to Ralph Neale and Ethel M. (Prewitt) Sutton. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Max Butts. Survivors are; children, Dr. Darcey and Jacque Butts of Glenwood, Iowa, Darnice Nyce of Hastings; sister, Enid and Delbert Force of Lacy, WA.; and sister-in-law. Jan Sutton of Hoyt, KS. grandsons, Marvin and Allison Aldabute, Lonnie and Sarah Butts, Martin "Alec" Nyce and Maxwell "Max" Nyce; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, Andrew and Amelia Aldabute and Isaac and Reagan Butts. Her family lived in several communities in the sandhills around Mullen and in the Wolbach area. She attended and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1944, completing her Normal Training program, allowing her to teach. She taught in a rural school in the Wolbach area following her graduation. She moved with her family to Grand Island and worked as office help at St. Francis Hospital and later worked for Dr. Robert Geer. On Nov. 9, 1947, Wilma was united in marriage to Max M. Butts in Grand Island. They made their home in the Clarks area where they farmed; which Wilma was actively involved in, including raising a large garden. As her children grew older, she worked for the Grand Island Army Ammunitions plant during the Vietnam era. She later earned her Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Medication Assistant certifications and worked nearly 20 years at Bethesda Care Center in Central City. Max died on July 12, 1997 and Wilma continued to live on the farm until moving to Hastings in 2003 to be near her daughter. Wilma was a long-time member of the Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church near Clarks, where she was active in the UMW, taught Bible school and Sunday school as well as served as superintendent. She served as the choir director, then became church pianist, and later the organist. Wilma also used her musical gifts by singing for church and funerals. Wilma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and she enjoyed playing cards and other games. Her special love was for her family and the time she spent with them. Wilma was also preceded in death by: parents, Ralph and Ethel Sutton, brother, Ronald Sutton; son-in-law, Duane Nyce; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Jensen and Wilma Ruge. Burial was in the Bureau Cemetery, Pierce Chapel, Clarks, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on March 28, 2012
